New book!!! Conscious Craft: Pottery

So my new book comes out on Monday and I'm a big ole mix of excitement and nerves.

This project was a huge tonne of work, Alma, my daughter was only 3 months old when we had the first meeting about it and it felt like such a huge undertaking at that point. She also didn't sleep. It was my first big job after having her and it was a great learning experience, trying to juggle being a mother and trying to meet deadlines.

I have been feeling a bit strange about the release of this book, I think because its not directly to do with any of my textile work, and I often think that people wonder why I have written a book on pottery.

You might not know that I often write various different types of craft tutorials and one of them one was an air dry clay pot for Mollie Makes. This is where the publisher had seen my work and the whole book stemmed from there. It's mad really when you are making these projects, and often personal projects, where they will lead. I never thought that this tutorial would lead to me writing a whole book on pottery and mindfulness. I’ve also had a lot of experience with throwing clay on the wheel, I made 40 pots for our wedding table arrangements to go in. I guess you could say it was my hobby for awhile.

I've been thinking a lot about this and how to tie it into my everyday work. But then I’ve realised that its ok, you can have many strings to your bow. As cheesy as that sounds.

Maybe the combination of these new pots I've been making, the woven pots. Maybe I'm combining both of the skills that I love is a way of doing that. I’ll keep experimenting and see what comes up.

The reason I’ve written this post is because I've been working on my confidence with my work and trying to talk about it more, not to be so afraid to promote it. It’s a work in progress but I'm guessing you won't know what I'm doing or making without me telling you. Obvious really.

So anyway, yes, my book is out on Monday and I’m so proud of it. If you fancy grabbing yourself a copy, you can find it here.  Above is a little sneak peak of some of the projects you can make from it (not the woven ones)
