I have this thing with flowers

This sunny Saturday morning was spent learning all about flowers with the beautiful Liz from Flower and Fern. She kindly opened her bright studio in Worthing to teach us all how to make a table arrangement. Liz has a wonderful unique and beautiful style to her work so I was really excited to learn about her technique and inspiration. 

We arrived to homemade lemonade, pastries and the biggest selection of beautiful flowers. I knew instantly this was going to be a great morning. After we had all arrived and settled we sat down to chat through the seasons and which flowers were around at each time of year. Liz had printed us off a pack to take away with us which included them as there was no way I was going to remember the names! 

We then moved onto conditioning the flowers. It was great to get started and have a feel for the kind of flowers I wanted to put in my arrangement. 

Liz started off by showing us the wire technique... instead of using foam for the base she used some chicken wire and scrunched it into a bowl. This then held the flowers in place when placing them into the bowl. This is her example above. 

I really loved this technique and so glad to come away with this tip for the future. I will definitely be doing this again in the bowl that we got with the class. This was my first attempt below. 

Next we moved onto creating the same arrangement but this time using the floristry foam which had already soaked in water for 24 hours. This time each placement felt more final than when we used the wire.
